William "Bill" Weinberger, age 63 of Turtle Lake, ND, died peacefully at his home in Turtle Lake after a long battle with cancer.
A memorial service will be held 10:30 A.M. Monday, March 4th at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Turtle Lake with Rev. Frank J. Schuster as celebrant. Inurnment will follow in the Turtle Lake Cemetery with military rites provided by the American Legion Post 133 of Turtle Lake. A prayer service will be held 7:00 P.M. Sunday at St. Catherine's Church.
William "Bill" James Weinberger was born September 20, 1949 in Mandan, ND, the third of four children born to Peter and Rose (Hegel) Weinberger. He lived with his family on his grandfather's farm southwest of Almont, ND until moving to Dickinson, ND, where he started grade school. Two years later, his family moved to a ranch west of Washburn and he attended school in Washburn until 1959. His family then moved to Turtle Lake, ND where he graduated from high school. William married Phyllis Weigel of Napoleon, ND on September 20, 1969 and they started their lives together in Turtle Lake. In December 1969, William was drafted into the U.S. Army and underwent basic training in Fort Lewis, WA. He was later sent to Fort Sill, OK until being deployed to Vietnam in October 1970. He was honorably discharged in October 1971 and returned to Turtle Lake. William went to work for Haas Chevrolet in Turtle Lake. He and Phyllis started their family with a little girl (Tanya) on February 22, 1973 and later a son (Theron) on June 10, 1974. In February 1981, he became employed with Great River Energy near Underwood. His wife Phyllis passed away on March 20, 1999 following a brief battle with cancer. On May 6th, 2000, William married MaryAnn Haas of Mandan. Together they loved camping, fishing, and dancing. Following his retirement from Great River Energy in December 2010, he kept busy with remodeling and building projects. William loved deer hunting with his Uncle Nick and helping his two brothers with various projects. He was a member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion Post 133 of Turtle Lake. In his younger years, he enjoyed racing and working on cars.
Survivors include his wife of 12 ½ years, MaryAnn Weinberger of Turtle Lake; one daughter, Tanya Brumley of Watsonville, CA; five step-children, Valerie (Kelly) Thompson of Crown Butte, ND, Troy (Pam) Teske of Bismarck, Melissa (Jim) Wetch of Lincoln, ND, Chad Teske, & Jason (Kaylee) Haas, both of Bismarck; three granddaughters & five step-grandchildren; two brothers, Paul (Mary Kay) Weinberger of Turtle Lake, and Ted (Linda) Weinberger of Hazen; two brothers-in-law, Bob Roggenbuck of Fargo, and Delmar (Stevie) Benkendorf of Loveland, CO; and a sister-in-law, Alice of Oakridge, TN.
William was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife (Phyllis), his son (Theron), a son-in-law (Mike Brumley), one sister (Betty Ann Roggenbuck), and a brother-in-law (Steve Benkendorf).
