Wayne L. Maynard, 71, of Wilton, ND died of natural causes at his home on September 23, 2018. Memorial services will be held Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Mission Evangelical Free Church in Wilton, ND at 4 pm. Officiating the service will be Pastor Russell Whitaker and the interment will be held in the Riverview Cemetery outside of Wilton, ND.
Wayne Leroy Maynard was born October 29, 1946 in Bismarck, ND. He is the son of Lloyd Jr. and Goldie (Wilson) Maynard. He was raised on the family farm and attended grade school in Painted Woods Township. He graduated from Wilton High School in 1963. He also attended Valley City State College where he graduated in 1967 with a teaching degree. His first teaching positions placed him in Drake, Fessenden and Williston, ND. During his five years of teaching, he met Pauline Benes the summer of 1969 in Boulder, CO. They were married December 30, 1969 in Boulder. They moved to the family farm near Wilton in 1972 where they raised their three children and farmed.
Wayne will always be remembered for his passion of telling others about Jesus, raising cattle and farming. He was a member of the Mission Evangelical Free Church where he served on the church board and taught adult Sunday school for several years. Wayne was involved with the Gideon International by spreading God's word through distributing bibles to schools, motels, and prisons. In addition, Wayne raised cattle for missionaries through Steer Inc. in Bismarck, ND. He also served on the Steer Missionary Board. Wayne also served on the Wilton School Board, Wilton Farmers Union Oil Company Board and the Wilton Farmers Union Elevator Board.
He is survived by his wife, Pauline Maynard of Wilton, ND along with his two sons Aaron Maynard of Mooresville, NC, Joel Maynard and one daughter Pamela Maynard of Wilton, ND. Wayne's sister, Jean (Jerry) Monroe of Wilton; his sister-in-law, Madeline (Bill) Jacquot of Northfork, CA; his brothers-in-law, Ed (Debi) Benes of Mammoth, CA and Joe Retterath of Stanton, ND; his nieces and nephews, Chad (Lisa) Monroe, Shemayne (Bill) Bray, Tatum (Patrick) McCann and Keenan (Carly) Retterath; several cousins and special friends, Jesse (Vincent) Christianson.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd "Bud" and Goldie Maynard; a brother, Ray Maynard; a niece, Ronda Maynard Duvall and a sister-in-law, Ellen Maynard Retterath.
