Wanda Lee (Schlichenmayer) Behrens, 85, of Mandan, formerly of Turtle Lake and Minot, passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2025, with her daughters at her side. A graveside service be held in the Turtle Lake Cemetery on Friday, December 5, 2025, at 2:00PM. A memorial service will follow at Turtle Lake Baptist Church.
Wanda Lee was born on February 8, 1940, in Turtle Lake, ND to Charles and Caroline (Steinke) Schlichenmayer. She graduated from Turtle Lake High School in 1958 and attended college in Minneapolis, MN.
On December 3, 1960, she married Les Lauer of McClusky and together they had two daughters: Lynette and Lisa. Wanda worked at a variety of jobs including Provident Life in Bismarck, Sheridan County Court House in McClusky, assisted Les in the ownership of Lauer’s Mobile Super Service Gas Station in Minot, and was a lunch lady at Central Campus Middle School in Minot.
Wanda married Walter Behrens in Minot in August of 1990. Together they traveled and promoted his numerous inventions. She enjoyed sewing windsocks from home which were sold to airports around the world. She moved to Mandan to be closer to family.
She is survived by her daughters, Lynette Lauer (Mandan) and Lisa (Kent) Nauman (Dickinson; grandchildren, Devon and Shane Lauer (Mandan) and Leah and Kenna Nauman (Dickinson); sister, Darlene Johnson (Underwood); brother, Paul Schlichenmayer (Turtle Lake), and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Wanda was preceded in death by her younger sister, Jean Marie; her parents, along with many aunts and uncles.
