Obituary

Walter A. Rime, age 69, passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2010, in the Methodist Hospital, San Antonio, Texas.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday, April 10, at the Augustana Lutheran Church in Underwood with Pastor Joel Sherer,officiating. Interment will be at the Coleharbor Cemetery.

Walter was born May 13, 1940, at Garrison, North Dakota to M. Russell and Laura (Hultberg) Rime, Emmet, North Dakota. He was baptized in St. Peters Lutheran Church, Emmet, and confirmed in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Garrison. He attended rural school at Emmet and was active in 4H. He graduated from Garrison High School in 1959. He spent his earlier years farming with his father on the family farm. He joined North Dakota National Guard in 1957. He was called for active duty during the Cuban Crisis in 1962, and received an Honorable Discharge in 1965. In 1970 he completed a course in Arc Welding at Lincoln Welding School in Cleveland, Ohio, and began his career as an Iron Worker and Pipefitter in the construction of power plants throughout the United States. He was a member of the ND Iron Workers Local 793 and Pipefitters Local 300.

On November 23,1969 he married Oleeta (Kinn) Rime, in Concordia Lutheran Church, Benedict, ND. They were blessed with two children, Kristina in 1970, and Reid in 1973. In 1976 they built their home in Underwood, where they became members of Augustana Lutheran Church. The family enjoyed many weekends at the lake camping and fishing. In 1996 Walter became disabled with COPD. In August 2004 he received a lung transplant (The Gift of Life) at Fairview University Hospital in Minneapolis. After receiving his transplant he was able to actively enjoy time spent with his family and watching his precious grandchildren grow. He spent his last days doing what he loved most, which was farming his land and preparing the location for their winter home, near Sisterdale, in the beautiful Texas Hill Country, with the help of his son, Reid, and his brother, Ray.

Neighbors held a memorial service and barbeque on his land, Friday, April 2nd. He had many new found friends in Texas.

He is survived by his wife, Oleeta of Underwood, ND; daughter, Kristina (Trent) Cottingham of Owatonna, MN; Reid (Sherry) Rime of Boerne, TX; mother, Laura Rime of Garrison, ND; granddaughters, Alyssa Cottingham, Katie Cottingham, and Lillian Rime; grandsons, Caylin Cottingham, Travis Shewmaker, and Michael Shewmaker; brothers, Raymond (Cathy) of Lake Livingston, TX, Tony of Fort Lauderdale, FL, & Larry (Connie) of Emmet, ND; sister, Lona (Brock) Affeldt of Mandan, ND; his wife's sisters and brothers, many nieces and nephews, several aunts and uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by an infant son; father, Russell Rime; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ole & Lillian Kinn, his grandparents, and two brothers-in-law,
