Wallace "Wally" A. Swanson, 87, Turtle Lake, ND died January 17, 2020 at CHI Community Memorial Hospital, Turtle Lake.  Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Turtle Lake with Pastor Sondra Krogstad officiating. Inurnment will be held in the Turtle Lake Cemetery.

Wally was born September 6, 1932 in Underwood, ND the son of Arthur and Dagney (Miller) Swanson. He was raised and educated in Underwood where he graduated from high school in 1951. Wally served in the U.S. Army from 1952 until 1955. He was stationed in Georgia and at Fort Campbell in Kentucky as a paratrooper. The last six months of his military career he was a paratrooper instructor. Wally married Myldred Sayler on September 6, 1953 in Underwood. They lived in Underwood until 1958 when they purchased a farm south of Turtle Lake where they raised their family and milked cows. They milked until 1998 when their son, Steve and his wife, Pam took over the milking.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and enjoyed doing carpentry work and reading.

Wally is survived by his wife of 66 years, Myldred; his sons, Mike (Barb) Swanson of Hazen, ND and Steve (Pam) Swanson of Turtle Lake; his daughters, Wanda (Don) Mehrer of Wright, WY, Cindy (LaMoyne) Vossler of Mercer, ND and Deb (Scott) Beilke of Valley City, ND; a daughter-in-law, Marsha Swanson of Hazen; his grandchildren, Jessica (Grant) Hamilton, Travis Swanson and special friend Erin, Skip (Melissa) Orvis, Brandon (Jackie) Mehrer, Shannon (Hilary) Mehrer, Malerie (Adam) Bock, Jesse (Becky) Vossler, Amber (Brian) O'Shea, Jason Beilke, Nikki (Kris) Ahmann and Shane (Kayla) Swanson; his 19 great grandchildren and one due in February and his sister-in-law, Elvera Swanson of Boise, Idaho.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Arthur; a daughter, Saundra; a son-in-law, Mike Stadick and his two brothers, Russell and Melvin.
