Vivian Ada Carvell was born January 6, 1920 in Emmet, North Dakota, the third of seven children born to Emma Louise Albrecht and Thomas Frederick Carvell. As a young woman, she worked at the Bismarck General Hospital as a nurse's aid. She always spoke of this time in her life with warmth and joy. In 1946, she married Ervin Haring and the couple gave birth to their only son, Timothy. In the years that followed, the family moved to the Pacific Northwest and settled in Oregon. Always active in church, Vivian was a member of the Parkrose United Community Church of Christ and the Grant Park Baptist Church. For many years she volunteered as a visitor to the elderly, bringing them much happiness. Vivian had the courage to see, the strength to persist, the love to share, and thankfulness for God's blessings and a big smile for everyone. Following her divorce from Ervin in 1983, she lived independently for 21 years and continued to be active in church and in helping others. She also loved to watch ice skating and professional wrestling on television. She held a special fondness for her daughter-in-law's Christmas fudge.

Vivian "Dee Dee" is survived by her son Timothy Haring and wife Deborah of Portland, OR; 2 Grandchildren: Joshua & Victoria (and husband Wijan); 1 Brother: Bob Carvell and wife Della; and many Nieces and Nephews.
