Obituary

Vickie Hagen, age 79, passed away peacefully at her home in Mandan on November 2, 2024, under the care of her HIT, Inc. staff.  Her body will be donated to science at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks.  Burial will be held at a later date in the Riverview Cemetery in Washburn.

Vickie was born October 25, 1945, the third of four children to Melvin "Mike" and Kate (Smith) Hagen in Washburn, ND. At the age of 6 she became a resident of San Haven in Dunseith, a division of the Grafton State School. Following the successful lawsuit filed by the ARC against the State of North Dakota in the early 1980s, Vickie resided the remainder of her life in her Mandan home managed by HIT, Inc.

Prior to ill health, Vickie enjoyed mealtimes, shopping trips, floating in the heated pool at the YMCA, scooting around in her wheelchair. She also enjoyed the many excursions around Bismarck and Mandan with her HIT staff. She enjoyed hugs and holding hands with staff.

Vickie is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Jay and Sandy Hagen, Rapid City, SD; her nieces and nephews, Randy Yunker, Hal (Valda) Yunker, John Yunker, Cathy Bonsness, Mike (Gene) Hagen and Barry (Holly) Hagen and many cousins.

Vickie was preceded in death by her parents; sister and brother-in-law, Vernell and Curtis Yunker; brother and sister-in-law, Dean and Phyllis Hagen; nephew, Steve Hagen and niece, Cindy (Yunker) Tracy.

Many thanks and gratefulness to the HIT staff for their kindness, respect, and excellent care of Vickie.  Though she could not verbally express it, you touched her heart, as she touched yours.
