Veronica "Nica" Johnson, 72, Underwood, ND died August 24, 2023 in a Bismarck hospital.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:30 PM on Monday, August 28, 2023 at St. Bonaventure's Catholic Church, Underwood.  Interment will be held in the church cemetery.  The family will gather one hour prior to the mass on Monday at the church.

Veronica "Nica" was born December 16, 1950 in Koror, Palau the daughter of Beketaut and Smoll (Ibutirang) Tawai.  She was raised and educated in Koror where she graduated from high school.  She worked in local restaurants in Koror.  Nica met Gregory Johnson while he was serving in the U.S. Navy in Palau.  She moved to the United States in 1975.  They were married in July of 1976 in Underwood.  Nica worked at the Underwood Golf Course and for local restaurants.

She enjoyed playing softball, bowling, darts and won many championships in those sports.  She also enjoyed golfing and had a hole in one at the Underwood Golf Course.  She will always be remembered for her cooking and for her love of playing bingo.

Nica is survived by her husband, Greg of Underwood; her daughter, Akiko (Elliot) Udui of Koror, Palau; her sons, Anthony Johnson and Chris (Lindsay) Johnson both of Underwood; her grandchildren, Halle, Ayshia, Aliah, Adiva, Sidney, Carter and Callen; her brother, Elwais Beketaut of Koror, Palau; her sisters, Cathleen (Roger) Kinnaman of Kalaheo, Hawaii, Limei (Johnny) Tudong of Ngnandmau, Palau, Daizy (Willard) Kumangai of Ngnandmau, Palau and Mercy Beketaut of Ngnandmau, Palau.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son Ross in 2000 and three brothers, Jackson Beketaut, Robinson Beketaut and Johnson Beketaut.
