Vernon C. "Doc" Hanson, 84, Coleharbor, ND died April 9, 2017 at CHI St. Alexius Health, Bismarck, ND. Memorial services will be held 10:00 AM Saturday May 6, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Turtle Lake, ND. Officiating will be Pastor Randy Emgarten. Inurnment will be held in the Bethel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Coleharbor with military rites provided by the Turtle Lake American Legion.
Vernon "Doc" was born November 1, 1932 in Malcolm Township rural Coleharbor the son of George "Arnold" and Myrtle (Okerson) Hanson. He was raised on the family farm 16 miles east of Garrison and attended country school. He served in the United States Army from 1957 until being honorably discharged in 1959. He was stationed in Germany for one year. After his discharge from the military he returned to the family farm where he farmed with his father. Over the years Doc also worked for Lindteigen Construction and was an iron worker for Local 793. He was also involved with the Garrison Wagon Train and his biggest passion was rodeos and his horses.
Doc married Phyllis Carey on April 3, 1971. They made their home in Coleharbor. Phyllis died September 30, 1987. Doc's father died in 1996 and he then moved back to the family farm to care for his mother. He was a member of the VFW and a lifetime member of the Iron Workers. Most people knew him as "Doc" with not many knowing his real name. Doc loved to visit and will be missed by everyone that knew him.
He is survived by his sister, Eunice Schock of Spokane, WA; his brother, Roger (LaVera) Hanson of Coleharbor; a brother-in-law, Walter Schock and his nieces and nephews, Barbara (Gary) Heath, Duane (Patty) Schock, Dale Schock, Terry Schock, Marsha (Robert) Holtan, Tammy (Stacey) Tanner, Annette Coy (Chuck Reiser), Randy (Sue) Hanson, Karla Atkins, Rodney (Kelly) Hanson and many great nieces and nephews.
Doc was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Phyllis, a brother, Dale, a sister, Elaine Fueller, a brother-in-law, Marvin Fueller, a great niece, Stacey Smith and a great nephew, Cody Tanner.
