Obituary

Vernon Edinger, 92, Turtle Lake, ND passed away June 27, 2022 at CHI St. Alexius Health, Turtle Lake.  Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Turtle Lake.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.

Vernon Edinger was born October 10, 1929 at Benedict, North Dakota the son of Jacob and Julia (Reichenberger) Edinger with the help of midwife Prudence Mahnke. He attended several rural country schools. He farmed with his father and also worked for several neighborhood farmers. He married the love of his life, Darlene Schoenberg on July 17, 1953. He served on the Board of Directors for the Equity Elevator for 9 years, the McLean McHenry insurance board for 21 years and the McLean Fair Board for 42 years.  He was a 4-H leader for 33 years and judged fair projects for many years. Vernon and Darlene were inducted into the 4-H Hall of Fame in 1997. He was a member of the former Benedict Sportsman's Club and volunteered at the fur trappers booth at the state fair for many years.

His interests included; hunting, trapping, rock collecting, bird and animal watching.  He loved wild flowers and was an avid reader in the winter. He was kind, generous and willing to help anyone who needed it. He was also the world's greatest hugger and a strong hand shaker.

Vernon is survived by his wife of 68 years, Darlene; daughters, Brenda (John) Willoughby, Beth (Dallas) Hetletved, Dawn (Rob) Auck and son Brad (Annette) Edinger; his grandchildren, Jen Stein, Sarah Putt, Dan Orne, Shane Auck, Lori Hetletved, Stacy Mauldin, Kiel Auck and Kaitlan Auck; his 5 great grandchildren; his brother, Arnold Edinger and several nieces and nephews; his brother-in-law, Gene (Joyce) Schoenberg and sister-in-law, Kathy (Wes) Jacobson. He is also survived by his "special" sister, Irene Böecher in Germany.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Elsie Berg, Freida Fischer, Edna Duerre, Lily Moseng, Esther Bauer, Sylvia Leitner, Lorraine Willoughby; brothers, Eldein, Clarence, infant brother, Samuel and infant sister, Martha and his mother and father-in-law, Art and Gertrude Schoenberg. He was loved by many and will be missed by all .  It's not goodbye, It's until we see you again.
