Valentine "Val" Emil Bott, 84, passed away on December 18, 2025, at the Turtle Lake Hospital in Turtle Lake, North Dakota. A visitation will be held in his honor on December 23, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM, both at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Turtle Lake, North Dakota. A private family burial will take place in Rendahl Cemetery, Rural Bottineau, ND in the spring of 2026.
Val was born on April 1, 1941, in Bottineau, North Dakota to Valentine C. and Anna (Redman) Bott. He was raised and educated in Dunseith, North Dakota, Val graduated from Dunseith High School in 1959. Following his education, he served in the United States Navy as a supply officer from 1960 to 1964, during which he notably served on the USS Eldorado and was awarded the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.
Returning to civilian life, Val began working on the family farm and later transitioned into a long and fruitful career as a partsman for several agricultural implement dealers in Bottineau, Rugby, and Williston. His unwavering commitment to agriculture allowed him to serve the community and contribute to the livelihoods of many until his retirement in 2011.
On June 4, 1966, Val married Melvina Tofteland, and together they built a life filled with shared experiences and mutual support. The couple raised two children, Wade and Steve, nurturing a family environment that was rich with values and affection. In 2014, Val and Melvina moved to Turtle Lake.
Val was a devoted family man and found great joy in spending time with his loved ones. He was the proud grandfather of Branden (Amanda), Cameron, Kyle, and great-grandfather to Gus and Arlo. He also shared lasting bonds with his brother Robert (Kim), and his sisters, Barbara Knoepfle and Mary (Ron) Maier. He will be remembered not only for his kind heart but also for his enthusiasm for outdoor activities; Val loved to hunt and fish, pursuits that brought him many treasured moments.
Val was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved son Steve, grandson Mackenzie, brother-in-law Clayton Knoepfle, and sister-in-law Beverly Bott, his impact on those who knew him will endure.
Val's life was one marked by dedication, giving spirit, and the joy of family connections, and he will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
