Harland Thomas Schulz (Tom) was born on Sept 10, 1941 to Marvin and Lorraine Schulz in their farmhouse in Washburn, ND. Tom attended Washburn High School where he enjoyed singing, church activities and playing football. He attended both Minot State University and Vennard Bible College.
After college he married his high school friend, Coleen Kay Kesselring, and they had two girls; Ruth (McLachlan) and Shari (Isaak). Tom started his professional life as a minister at serval parishes in Hettinger, Sterling and Jamestown, ND. His work ethic, and drive to support his family, led him to also work at Allied Van-lines while also supplying two to three parishes.
After his Father-In-Law asked him to come back to the family farm and work, he eagerly accepted and they started a new life in Washburn with their girls. He was known for being innovative with his farming techniques and was ahead of his time with technology. He enjoyed volunteering his time at the United Methodist Church, where he loved to sing. He also enjoyed working as School Board President and active board member of the ND Buffalo Association. His matter a fact, black and white, attitude made him an excellent leader in all the positions he held. His passion for life, and doing what was right, allowed him to work towards how to make things better for his family and community. Tom's final passions was starting his buffalo ranch at the age of 59 with Coleen which led to his favorite pastime, having a Budweiser while watching his buffalo from the deck.
