Tilly Thompson, 75, of Underwood, ND, died March 18, 2022 at St. Alexius Health, Bismarck. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at St. Bonaventure's Catholic Church in Underwood with Father Patrick Cunningham officiating. Interment will be held in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday at the church from 5 to 7 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. vigil service.
Tilly was born March 17, 1947 in Center, ND, the daughter of George and Josephine (Fix) Barnhardt. She attended rural school until 6th grade before going on to graduate from Center High School on May 18, 1966. She worked as a cook, waitress and bartender for nearly four decades and enjoyed meeting all kinds of people.
Tilly married Norman Carsen in 1967. They had three children together: Carol, Russell and Lynn. Norman died in 1974.
Tilly married George "Bernie" Thompson in August 1983, and they lived together in Pick City, ND. Bernie had many jobs that allowed them to travel and meet a lot of great people around the country. She lost Bernie, her best friend and husband, in 2011.
She enjoyed playing pinochle, cribbage and blackjack. She also enjoyed working in her yard, gardening and canning fresh produce. She often gave her canned goods away, along with her recipes. She amassed a collection of beautiful glass pitchers and bowls over the years.
Tilly was a member of the Underwood Senior Citizens and St. Bonaventure's Catholic Church, where she faithfully attended daily Mass.
She is survived by her daughters, Carol Carsen of Fargo, ND, and Lynn (Ken) Hill of McClusky, ND; grandchildren Kayla (Lucas), Aneasha (Ryan), Dallas, Chance, and Savannah (Cody); great grandchildren Preston, Romin, Jacob, Ansel, Hailey, Asher, Ciarra, Jahmal, Blake, and a great granddaughter on the way; several nieces and nephews; many friends; and her faithful companions, Buddy and Paula.
Tilly was preceded in death by her parents George and Josephine; her husbands, Norman and Bernie; son Russell Carsen; grandson Dustin Bruce; sisters Pauline Baker and Dorothy Wetsch; and brothers Ray and Don Barnhardt.
