Obituary

Thomas Sheldon, 66, peacefully passed away into his Saviors arms while at home and surrounded by his family on June 19, 2019. Memorial services will be held at 10:30am Saturday, June 22, 2019 at First Lutheran Church, Washburn with Pastor Erik Johnson and Pastor Rick Torkelson officiating.  A time of remembrance will be held from 6-8 pm on Friday June 21, 2019 at First Lutheran Church in Washburn. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Riverview Cemetery, Washburn.

Tom was born on October 28, 1952 in Bismarck, ND the son of Raymond and Edith (Burgum) Sheldon. Tom was raised on the family farm north of Washburn where his love to tinker and fix the unfixable was born. Tom then attended college at North Dakota State University attaining a degree in agronomy, while mastering the art of friendship. At NDSU Tom formed lifelong friendships with SAE fraternity brothers, became an avid Bison fan, and later in life became an honorary member of the Fargo beer club.

After college, Tom moved back to Washburn and began his farming career with his father Raymond. In 1979 he married the love of his life, Kim Kost, and together they had 3 beautiful children and were married for 40 years.

Tom enjoyed life outdoors including hunting, fishing, and working on many projects at his shop. Some of his favorite activities were watching the Green Bay Packers, Bison football, deer camp, hunting the Ness woods, and taking his beloved dog Sadie for drives. Tom spent 10 years on the board of directors for FSA and was a current director for McLean Electric Cooperative.

Tom is survived by his wife, Kim Sheldon; his children, Justin (Tammy) Sheldon, Callie (Todd) Sinner, Tyge (Alli) Sheldon; his 9 grandchildren, Taylor, Laney, Tory, Kinley, Madeline, Brody, Mason, Adley, and Kane; his brother, Brad (Cathy) Sheldon; his sisters, Kris (Rick) Link and Karyn Sheldon and many nieces and nephews. Tom adored his grandchildren and cherished his lifelong friendships.

Tom was preceded in death by two infant brothers and his parents Raymond and Edith (Burgum) Sheldon.

Tom was passionate about helping others in the recovery process and helping those in need. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hope Manor, Bismarck or to the McLean Family Resource Center, Washburn.
