Ted Walcker, age 84 of Riverdale, ND passed away Monday, June 7, 2010 at his home.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, June 10th at Riverdale Community Church with Pastor Alan Hathaway officiating.
Burial will be in the Turtle Lake Cemetery with military honors provided by the Honor Guard and the American Legion Post 133.
Visitation will take place from 12 Noon to 2:00 PM Thursday at Riverdale Community Church.
Theodore Raymond Walcker was born March 18, 1926 in Turtle Lake, ND to Philip & Lena (Hoffman) Walcker. He attended rural school near Turtle Lake through the 8th Grade. Ted entered the U.S. Navy on October 21, 1944 and was honorably discharged as a Seaman First Class on December 9, 1946. He married Irene Dorothy Schmidt on October 14, 1949 in Turtle Lake. As a young man, Ted worked on the family farm and on the construction phase of the Garrison Dam. He also served as Chief of Police in Turtle Lake and Riverdale, ND for several years. In 1968, Ted became employed with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a hydroelectric plant mechanic at the Garrison Dam. Ted retired from the Corps of Engineers in 1993. Ted was a member of the Riverdale Community Church and a 60 year member of the American Legion Post 133 of Turtle Lake. Ted liked working hard and getting things done. He enjoyed traveling to Lignite, ND to help his daughter's family in getting the crop planted and harvesting in the fall. He returned at night with a smile, whistling a tune, and saying he had a "fruitful day". Ted also enjoyed fishing, working in his shop, and visiting with people.
He is survived by his wife, Irene Walcker of Riverdale; two sons, Gary (Sue) Walcker of Winnemucca, NV, & Larry (Sandi) Walcker of Butte, MT; one daughter, Joyce (Mike) Glaspey of Lignite, ND; twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren; two sisters, Louise (Bryan) Grondahl of Riverdale, & Vi Walcker of Underwood; one brother, Willie Walcker of Hebron; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Walcker of Finley, ND & Bev Walcker of Underwood; one brother-in-law, Layton Freborg of Underwood; and many nieces & nephews.
Ted was preceded in death by one son (Steven James Walcker), two brothers (Ray & Milton "Lefty"), & one sister (Delilah Freborg).
