Steven H. Martin, age 52 of Washburn, ND passed away Sunday, December 24 at a Bismarck hospital.

Visitation: 1:00 PM - 8:00 PM Wednesday at Goetz Funeral Home - Washburn;
Thursday, 1 hour prior to time of service at the church.

Steven Henry Martin was born April 17, 1954 at Mandan, ND, the son of Stephen & Erna (Hagerott) Martin. He attended elementary school in Hensler & Washburn, ND and graduated from Center High School in 1972. He continued his education at North Dakota State University where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. Steven graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science and Farm/Ranch Management. He received his education in finance from the Minnesota School of Banking in Morris, MN and the Graduate School of Banking in Boulder, CO. In 1976, Steven started his banking career working as a loan officer at Norwest Bank in Mobridge, SD. While living in Mobridge, he was active with the Jaycees club and also taught hunter safety courses. In 1979, he returned to his home in Oliver County, ND to farm and ranch. He married Meri Scholl on March 6, 1982 at Washburn, ND. In June 1983, he became employed as Vice-President of the Farmers Security Bank in Washburn, a position he held for 21 years until June 2004. In September 2004, Steven became the manager of the Dakota West Credit Union - Washburn Branch. During his career, he continued to stay active with his farm & ranch operations and also owned the Jet Car Wash and Storage Units in Washburn. Steven served as a board member of the Washburn Public School, the Washburn Economic Development Organization, and the Washburn One-Cent City Sales Tax Committee. He was instrumental in the organization of the Washburn Area Dollars for Scholars chapter and served as its first President. He was an active member of Ducks Unlimited and a member of the Washburn United Methodist Church. Steven loved the great outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed his coffee group, snow skiing, and relaxing on the river sandbar with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Meri Martin of Washburn, ND; 2 daughters and 1 son, Stephanie Martin, Carolene Martin, & Hunter Martin; 1 brother, Dennis (Jean) Martin of Fargo, ND;
2 sisters, Sheila (Jim) Wells of Santa Fe, NM, & Deborah Martin of Alexandria, MN;
1 sister-in-law, Bobbie (Rob) Akin of San Diego, CA; many nieces & nephews,
& his constant companion, 11 year-old yellow lab "Deda".

He was preceded in death by his parents, and 1 brother (Gary).

Steven H. Martin gave in death as he gave in life; he was an organ/tissue donor.

In lieu of flowers, the Martin family asks that memorials be sent to the Washburn Area Dollars for Scholars (PO Box 442, Washburn, ND 58577). As a charter member of the Washburn D/S chapter, helping young people was Steven's passion.
