Sonja E. Petersen, 81 of Beulah, ND died February 14, 2024 in the Sakakawea Medical Center, Hazen, ND.  Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, June 10, 2024 at First Lutheran Church, Washburn, ND.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment will be held in the Riverview Cemetery, Washburn.

Sonja Elaine Petersen was born March 26, 1942 in Underwood, ND the daughter of Russell and Erna (Laib) Petersen.  She was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Washburn.  She was raised in the Washburn area and graduated from the Washburn High School in 1960.

She moved to Kingsford, Michigan in 1973.  Sonja married Dominic Izzo in 1975 and they had one daughter, Wanda Marie.  Sonja and Wanda returned to Washburn and then moved to Beulah in 1993.  Sonja became a resident of Knife River Care Center in December of 2018.

Sonja is survived by her daughter, Wanda (Nate) Harris; her grandsons, Dyllon and Jordan; her sister, Diane Belk; her brother, Terry (Norma) Petersen; five nieces and two nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Erna; her brother, Dale Petersen; and a brother-in-law, Al Belk.
