Shirley was born June 19, 1941 the daughter of Jacob and Gladys (Rygh) Schilling. She was raised on the family farm where she learned a strong work ethic at a young age. She milked cows and helped cook for the family and threshing crews. Shirley enjoyed every minute of helping out with a smile on her face.
She attended Turtle Lake High School where she met the love of her life, Leonard Klain. They were united in marriage on September 20, 1958 at Peace Lutheran Church in Turtle Lake. That same year they purchased the Prouty farmstead North of Turtle Lake to begin their family farm.
Shirley and Leonard raised three children, Durnell, Tam and Suzette. Shirley was always busy working hard with gentle hands. She spent a lot time in the kitchen, garden, barnyard and field. She did what was needed to keep the windmill turning and farm going.
She enjoyed attending horse and cattle shows, 4-H events and all sporting and activities that her children were a part of. Leonard and Shirley retired in 2008 and moved into Turtle Lake. She continued to enjoy quilting, crafting, baking, gardening, canning and entertaining. Their home was always open for a cup of coffee and dessert. Shirley will always be remembered as a woman of great faith and courage.
