Shawn P. Kastrow, age 42 of Stanley, formerly of Underwood, died Monday, June 11th, 2012 at a Minot hospital following a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral Services will be held 10:30 A.M. Thursday, June 14th at St. John's Lutheran Church in Underwood with Pastor Dean Hartley officiating. Burial will follow in the Underwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. Wednesday at the church.
Shawn was born May 12, 1970 in Omaha, NE to James Taylor and Susan Rash. She moved with her mother Sue to Casper, WY where she graduated from high school. Shawn moved to Phoenix, AZ where she gave birth to a son, Jarrod. She then moved to Oklahoma where her daughter, Amanda Sue, was born. In 1992, she met Jerome "Butch" Kastrow and they married three years later on August 5, 1995 in Underwood. This union brought two daughters, Billie Jean and Amanda Jean, into her life. While raising four children, Shawn worked as a C.N.A. at Prairieview Nursing Home in Underwood, and as a secretary/dispatcher at Waste Management. She later worked at ABC Daycare, Sykes Enterprises, Grimsley Convenience Store, the Stoney End Restaurant & Lounge, and P.J.'s Bar. Following the high school graduation of her girls, she moved to Stanley, ND to follow her husband's work. Shortly after moving to Stanley, she was diagnosed with cancer. Shawn worked at the Mountrail County Nursing Home in Stanley until her failing health required to stop in January 2012. She enjoyed camping and visiting with friends. She loved spending time with her four children. Her life was cut short by cancer. She fought a long battle, clinging to life the last 10 days to see her friends and family one last time. Shawn will be greatly missed by many people. Rest in peace, everyone still loves you!
She is survived by her husband, Jerome "Butch" Kastrow of Stanley, ND; four children, Billie (Doug) Nelson of Fargo, Jarrod Kastrow of Washburn, Amanda Sue Kastrow of Stanley, & Amanda Jean Kastrow of Mandan; one granddaughter, Hailey Gene; her mother, Sue Rash of Stanley; her father, James Taylor of Omaha, NE; her grandmother, Pauline Lohmann of Bellevue, NE; two brothers, Justin (Courtney) Taylor of Griswold, IA, & Bryan Taylor of Omaha, NE; & three sisters, Carrie (Lance) Kinser of Griswold, IA, Toni (Rob) Mumm of Fremont, NE, & Amy (Dan) Morrison of Blair, NE.
