Sharon Westman, 76, Underwood, ND died November 13, 2023 at the CHI Community Memorial Hospital, Turtle Lake. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at the Underwood Cemetery with Pastor Randy Emgarten officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM on Friday at Goetz Funeral Home in Washburn.
Sharon was born January 19, 1947 in Underwood the daughter of Harold and Esther (Schafer) Kapanke. She was raised and educated in Underwood. She worked at the Underwood Hotel and Café as a night cook as a teenager. Sharon married Ronnie Derheim in 1965. Ronnie was in U.S. Marine Corps so they lived on many different bases in different states. They lived in California, New Jersey, North Carolina, Georgia. While living in New Jersey they enjoyed visiting different historical sites in Washington D.C. and Philadelphia. They travelled from the Pacific coast to the Atlantic coast and enjoyed taking their children to various sites along the way. Sharon and Ronnie later divorced and she moved back to North Dakota with her two children, Karla and Michael. Sharon then went to work as a waitress and cook for the Park Inn. She met and married Wayne Westman in 1976. After their marriage she enjoyed the life of being a mother and wife that didn't have to pack every year for a move to another base. Sharon was nurturing to the elderly, children and animals, especially her birds.
She enjoyed decorating for the holidays and remodeling and refinishing furniture. She also loved to garden, bake, can, bowl and keep up the rental houses. The family enjoyed camping when the kids were young enough to enjoy the outdoors.
Sharon is survived by her children, Karla Derheim of Underwood and Michael Derheim of Ashland, KS; her grandchildren, Samantha (Fidencio Jr.) Rivera of Buffalo, OK, Stephanie Derheim of Underwood and Spencer Derheim of McPherson, KS; her great granddaughter, Isabella Rivera of Buffalo, OK; her brother, Dave (Roxie) Kapanke of Underwood and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Esther Granlie and Harold Kapanke; her husband, Wayne in 2010; her step father, Arnold Granlie and her brother, Larry (Anita) Schafer.
