Shane Wilhelmi, 42, of Fargo, formerly of Washburn, ND, died August 20, 2014 at a Pittsburgh, PA medical center following a lifelong battle with cystic fibrosis.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday August 28, 2014 at St. Edwin's Catholic Church, Washburn. Officiating will be the Rev. Patrick Cunningham. Interment will be in the Riverview Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:30pm until 7:00pm at St. Edwin's Catholic Church. There will be a rosary/vigil at 7:00pm. Visitation will continue one hour before the services at the church on Thursday.
Shane was born May 29, 1972 at Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake, ND. He attended school in Devils Lake until second grade when the family moved to Washburn. Shane attended Washburn Public School from 2nd grade through high school. He graduated from Washburn High School in 1990. He attended BSC and Devils Lake Region Jr. College for criminal justice. He worked as a back room stock manager at Leevers Market from August 1993 to August 1996. From October 1997 to March 2005, he was a workflow coordinator at U. S. Bank and starting in April 2005 he worked at Navteq/Nokia as a project coordinator II in Fargo, where he was still working at the time of his death. Shane enjoyed local motorcycle rallies at the Captain's Cabin in Washburn, attending Lewis & Clark Riverboat Days, fantasy football, watching Nascar, the Arizona Cardinals, the Chicago Cubs, bowling, throwing parties, golfing, watching WWE, and held a great love for bacon. He was a member of the CFA (Cystic Fibrosis Association).
In 2009, Shane met Jennifer Schwan, who later became his fiancée. Shane enjoyed the many trips he took, whether it was for work or fun, he enjoyed traveling to Montana, Colorado, South Carolina, Pittsburgh, PA, Florida, Chicago, IL, St. Louis, MO, and India (twice).
Due to complications from Cystic Fibrosis, Shane underwent a double lung transplant on April 8, 2014. Shane will be missed by his many friends, especially his special friends from the Washburn area.
He is survived by his parents: Ronald & Margie Possen, Washburn, ND; brother and sister-in-law: Stuart and Megan Possen, Bismarck, ND; his fiancée, Jennifer Schwan, Fargo, ND and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Richard and Ruth Possen and Francis and Irene Wilhelmi; Uncles: James Possen and Harold Struksnes; cousin: Richard Paul Struksnes and a good friend, Courtney Schuler.
