Obituary

Sandra "Sandy" Elaine (Leinius) Folk, 72, of Center, ND passed away peacefully on Friday, August 5 after a valiant fight against cancer while under hospice care. Visitation will occur Friday, August 12 from 5-7pm CDT at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Stanton, ND. Services will be held Saturday, August 13 at 10:30 am CDT at Our Savior's Lutheran Church and officiated by Pastor Dennis Ristvedt. Interment will immediately follow at the Stanton Cemetery followed by a luncheon at the Stanton Civic Center.

Sandy was born December 19, 1949 to Delores (Cordes) and Martin Leinius of Stanton, ND. She grew up with four brothers whom she loved dearly. She attended and graduated from Stanton Public School in 1967 and went on to study in California and at Dickinson State University. She met James "Jim" Folk of Center, ND on February 14, 1970 at a wedding dance and they married in Stanton on July 10, 1971. Sandy and Jim eventually settled on their farm in Fort Clark where they raised four daughters. Sandy worked for the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction and Basin Electric before she eventually became the business manager/secretary at the Stanton Public School from 1975 until it closed in 2003. She then worked for the Center-Stanton Elementary School from 2003 until she retired in 2020 after 45 years of service.

Sandy loved working with school children and her colleagues. She was meticulous in her work, had a memorable laugh and a great sense of humor. She loved to have fun, travel with or visit her daughters, play card games with friends and family, complete crossword puzzles, listen to Elvis, visit with friends and family, and bake. She worked on the Stanton Community Calendar for many years and often helped at community and school activities. Sandy valued education and encouraged her children to excel in school. She loved puzzles, board games, solitaire, and game shows. Sandy rarely missed Jeopardy and usually knew all the questions. She and Jim played together on a dart team for several years. They were often seen on the dance floor at celebrations, usually during waltzes and 60s music. Sandy loved to have a good time and will be sorely missed by many. Sandy especially relished her favorite job as Grandma and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her family is incredibly proud of her strength, determination, and courage in her final years. She was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, and grandma whose shoes could never be filled. We know she would have preferred to proofread this and would be annoyed we are making such a fuss - sorry Mom! The family would like to thank our family members and friends who provided support and assistance during her four-year battle with cancer as well as her doctors, nurses, and the staff at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care for their wonderful and compassionate care.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents Martin and Delores, her brother Keith, her baby sister Elaine, and a grandchild. She is survived by Jim, her loving husband of 51 years, of Center, ND; her daughters and sons-in-law Cassie Folk of Washington DC, Nicole Folk Cooper and David Cooper of Seattle, WA, Terri Folk and Gregory Brown of Alexandria, VA, Kelli and Tyrell Murrey of Washburn, ND; her four cherished grandchildren Ainsley, Prewitt, Hollyn, and Hazel; her brothers and sisters-in-law Neil and Jane Leinius of Bismarck, ND, Gary and Tricia Leinius of Stanton, ND, Rickey and Barb Leinius of Bismarck, ND, Randy and Charmayne Leinius of Center, ND; and many in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
