Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at Mission Evangelical Free Church in Wilton, ND with Pastor Russell Whitaker officiating. Samuel was born October 17, 1994 in Bismarck, ND to Thomas John and Ora LaShella (Orr) Davenport. He was the youngest of six children and grew up on the family farm in Baldwin, ND. At two years old, he was checking cows and riding in tractors with his dad and grandpa. A year later he even walked a mile to his grandparents' house in the ditch by himself. Sam was always at his dad's side, hot rodding and tinkering around on the farm. They even built a cannon together for a school project. At a young age, Sam and his brother Lee accidentally burned down an old building by lighting off fireworks into the top story. When questioned about the fire, Sam responded, "What? I peed on it." He was very matter of fact and always kind. He enjoyed fishing, paintball, gaming, playing with his nieces and nephews, and spending time with family and friends. Sam was highly involved at Asbury Camp in Washburn, ND and served as a camp counselor for several years.
After losing his dad at 14 years old, life was never the same. Two years later the family and Sam's world came crashing down again when he was diagnosed with Cushing's syndrome and neuroendocrine cancer. He underwent several operations including a liver transplant in 2012. Sam attended Wilton Public School through his senior year and received his high school diploma from Bismarck South Central High School in 2014. The next year, he spent two weeks in Florida with his cousin Sue and family, helping them on the fishing boats and enjoying life there. Although he had many challenges due to his health, he never complained and was always loving and thankful. There are not enough words to describe Sam and what he meant to his loved ones. His strength through life's struggles will always be an inspiration to everyone. We are all very thankful for the time we had with our son, brother, uncle and friend. Sam will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his mother, Ora LaShella Davenport, of Baldwin; sisters, Janel (Eric) Eckroth of Bismarck, Christina (Spencer) Potts of Grafton, Lillian (Mathew) Mabry of Vadnais Heights, MN; brothers, Travis Davenport (Mandee Nelson) of Center, Leland (Tara) Davenport of Devils Lake; his nieces and nephews, Alexander, Nicholas & Olivia Eckroth; Kimber Potts; Cecelia & Theodore Mabry; Davin, Ruby, & Lydia Davenport; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Samuel was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Davenport; grandparents, Leonard & Margaret (Onstad) Davenport, Charles & Joyce (Landreth) Orr; and uncles, David Davenport and Donald Davenport.
