Ruth Nathan, 96, of Turtle Lake, ND passed away peacefully at CHI Community Memorial Swing Bed, Turtle Lake, on August 15, 2020.  Visitation will be held at St. Olaf Lutheran Church from 9:30 – 11:00 on Friday, August 21, 2020. Graveside services will follow immediately at the Turtle Lake Cemetery. Pastor Randy Emgarten will officiate the graveside service. A luncheon will follow the graveside service the Turtle Lake American Legion.  Pallbearers will be Russ Nelson, Boyd Nelson, Cal Nelson (deceased) Chuck Nelson, Gordy Nelson, Kelly Nelson and all of Ruth's grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ruth was born November 9, 1923 at Martin, ND to Christian and Anna (Schaefer) Knodel. She attended grade school at Ruso, ND.  Ruth married Paul Orval Nelson in 1946 at Ruso, ND. Ruth and Orval farmed north of Turtle Lake until his death in 1961.

Ruth later married Richard Nathan in 1965 and Ruth and her family joined Richard on his farm northwest of Turtle Lake, where they lived and farmed until Richard's death in 1996.  Ruth later moved into Turtle Lake where she remained an active member of the community.

Ruth is survived by her children; E-Dee (Jerry) Baker, Turtle Lake, Russ (Judy) Nelson, Turtle Lake, Boyd Nelson, Max, daughter-in-law Nancy (Cal deceased), Excelsior, MN, Chuck (Nory) Nelson, Vancouver, WA, Gordon (Evon) Nelson, Turtle Lake, Kelly (Lori Willoughby) Nelson, Coleharbor, Pam (Chris Davidson) Helland, Canby, Ore.; her grandchildren; Chellee (Jim) Presser, Jerali (Darin) Miller, Toni (David) Hirschkorn, Jason Nelson, Angela (Curt) Kraft, Joseph (Jennifer) Childs, Julie Cunningham, Paul (Heather) Nelson, Seth (Erika) Nelson, Jessica (Wil) Kratz, Brandon (Elena) Nelson, Natalie Nelson, Dylan Nelson, Mike (Melissa)Nelson, Brad (McKenzie) Nelson, Nelson (Crystle) Helland, Sam (Olivia) Helland, Parker Helland; her great grandchildren: Kyler and Kohl Miller, Hailee and Ashlee Presser, Marcus Hirschkorn, Candice Jesser, Levi Kraft, Matthew Childs, Kathryn Childs, Rachel Childs, Benjamin Childs, Samantha Childs, Hugo Nelson, Jillian Nelson, Mavrick Nelson, Maksim Nelson, Makynna Nelson, Kashtyn Nelson, Chasee Nelson, Daysi Nelson, Bodie Nelson, Ledger Helland.  Ruth is also survived by her sisters-in-law; MaryAnn (Neil) Nelson, Betty (Herbert) Nathan, Ardis (Dale) Nathan, Karyn (Robert) Nathan and Joan (Dave) Knodel and many nieces and nephews.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; a son, Calvin Nelson; one brother; four sisters; numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

The family would like to thank the entire community for making Moms life special and in lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to the donor's choice.
