Russell C. Petersen, age 93 of Washburn, ND died Saturday, December 31, 2005 at an Underwood nursing home.

Russell Clifford John Petersen was born March 12, 1912 at Calgary, Alberta, the son to Casner & Annie (Andersen) Petersen. In 1914, the family moved to Terry, Montana and in 1916 to Washburn, North Dakota. Russell attended school in the Washburn area.
He married Erna Laib on November 25, 1933 at Washburn. The couple lived and farmed near Washburn for many years. Russell also worked as a carpenter for several years. He retired from farming in 1971. He and Erna enjoyed traveling together and visited many of the western states, including Alaska. Erna, his wife of 47 years, passed away in January 1981. Russell continued to live on the farm until November 2004 when he moved to the Edgewood Vista in Bismarck. In August 2005, he became a resident of the Prairieview Nursing Home in Underwood. Russell was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Washburn where he served on the church council, taught Sunday School, and was involved with the construction of the church. He held an interest in photography and was a member of the Washburn Photo Club. Russell was also a member of the Washburn Lions Club, the McLean County Farm Bureau Board, and the Falkirk Elevator Board. May God bless his memory.

He is survived by his daughters, Diane Belk of Sioux Falls, SD, & Sonja Petersen of Beulah, ND; son & daughter-in-law, Terry & Norma Petersen of Washburn, ND;
grandchildren: Fawn (Perry) Killion of Madison, SD and their children, Heather, Shawn, Nicholas, & Peter;
Cynthia Frederickson of Worthington, MN and her children, Matt & Sarah;
Corine (Jim) Stach of Letcher, SD and their children Andy, Elise, & Neil;
Barbara Belk (Scott Hartvigsen) of Alameda, CA and their son Gabriel;
Lydia Freedon (Alex Ufford) of Vermillion, SD and their son Tony;
Brent (Theresa) Petersen of Washburn, ND and their children Justin, Mark, & Drew;
Steven Petersen (Martha Beaves) of Portland, OR and their children Ben, Reed, & Elise; Wanda (Nate) Harris of Honolulu, HI and their children Dyllon & Jordan; 3 great-great grandchildren; & 3 sisters-in-law, Luella Petersen, Amanda Thyberg, & Viola Tatrow.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife (Erna), son (Dale),
brothers (Elner & Quay), & great-granddaughter (Meggin Killion)
