Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Russell "Russ" Gessele, a beloved son, brother, husband, father, and friend. Russ departed his earthly life on November 18, 2023, at the age of 81, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.  A celebration of Russ' life will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Turtle Lake, ND on Wednesday, November 22nd at 11 am.   In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Trinity Lutheran Church reflecting Russ' commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of others.

Russ was born on August 13th, 1942 and graduated from Turtle Lake High School. His passion for education led him to pursue a Master's in Education from the University of Mary, shaping a path dedicated to enriching the lives of others through knowledge.

Russ' impact as an educator extended beyond the classroom. He was a mentor, a guide, and a friend to countless students throughout his career. His love for teaching was evident and his influence remains imprinted in the minds of all who had the privilege of learning from him.

Outside of the academic realm, Russ found joy in simple pleasures. He spent many years working tirelessly as a farmer/rancher.  As an avid reader, he found solace in the captivating tales of western literature. His love for the genre extended to watching classic westerns, where he found entertainment and relaxation.

Russ will forever be remembered for the warmth of his kind heart, the twinkle in his eye when sharing a witty remark, and the generosity he extended to everyone he met. He effortlessly became a role model to others, someone whom people instinctively looked up to and admired. Russ also was an eternal optimist which was no better exemplified than by his passionate dedication for watching his beloved Minnesota Twins and Vikings.

Though Russ has left this earthly realm, his spirit lives on in the lessons he imparted, the kindness he showed, and the laughter he shared. His legacy is carried forward by each and every person fortunate enough to have known him. In the words of A.A. Milne, "How lucky I am to have something (or someone) that makes saying goodbye so hard."

Russ' family finds solace in the belief that goodbyes aren't forever. They take comfort in the knowledge that they will be reunited with Russ in heaven, where his spirit will continue to inspire and bring joy to those who await him.

Russell Gessele is survived by his wife Harriet Gessele, daughters Heather Kramer and Erin (Tom) Paulson, his sister Sharon (Bill) Hoverson, and a host of other family members and friends who will forever cherish the memories they shared with this remarkable man.

Russ' legacy lives on in the hearts of those he touched, and he will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
