Rudolph "Rudy" G. Schock, 94, Turtle Lake, ND died November 19, 2022 in the CHI Community Memorial Hospital, Turtle Lake. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, November 25, 2022 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Turtle Lake with Pastor Russ Lambert officiating. Interment will be held in the spring at the Turtle Lake Cemetery. The service will be livestreamed at the bottom of his obituary on this page.
Rudy was born November 13, 1928 on the family farm NE of Turtle Lake the son of Gottfried and Olga (Schadler) Schock. He farmed with dad and brothers while attending country school through the 5 grade. He also attended Turtle Lake School through the 8 grade. He was baptized and confirmed in 1941 by Reverend Ernest Adams at Peace Lutheran Church in Turtle Lake. He was currently a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Turtle Lake where he was a member of the choir and the quartet. He was president of the Lutheran Brotherhood for 13 years.
In 1948 he left the farm and went to work for Haas Implement. Rudy married Doris Fandrick in 1949 and they had three children, Kenneth, Shirley and Karl. Rudy and Doris parted ways in 1971. He owned and worked in the gas station industry for many years in Minot, ND and later in Portland, OR. In 1980 he moved to Olathe, KS to spent time with his sons. He returned to North Dakota in 1981.
Rudy married Janice Feickert on March 3, 1983 and they made their home Underwood, ND. He gained 4 more children that he accepted as his own. They enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time with their families and friends. Rudy and Janice spent many hours volunteering at nursing homes, senior centers and hospitals. Rudy spent many hours driving people wherever they needed to go and he also delivered meals on wheels and helped at many community events. He also provided many hours of musical entertainment to the community.
He played the accordion since he was 16 years old and in the later years touched many people with his musical talent. The highlight of his accordion career was taking first place at the ND Hostfest accordion contest in Minot in 1992 and being able to play with Myron Floren. Rudy also enjoyed shooting pool and playing pinochle. Rudy had been a resident of the Turtle Lake Community Memorial Hospital swing bed for the last 3 years, until gaining his wings on November 19, 2022
He is survived by his wife, Janice of Turtle Lake; his children, Shirley Applegate of Clarkston, WA, Karl Schock of Edwards, MO, Tamra (John) Fandrich of Surrey, ND, Lori (Rodney) Opdahl of Harvey, ND, April (Brent) Schafer of Bismarck, ND; his brother, Al (Susan) Schock of Beulah, ND; his sister, Rubyjean Hudson of Sheridan, WY; his sister-in-laws, Erna Schock of Miles City, MT and Joyce Schock of Flandreau, SD; his 13 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and his best friend, Don Sondrol.
Rudy was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sons, Kenneth Schock and Mitchell Gross; 4 brothers; a sister; a grandson and a great grandson.
Rudy touched many lives and will be missed by all.
