Ruby Britton, age 88 of Turtle Lake, ND died Monday, November 3, 2008 at the Prairieview Nursing Home in Underwood.

Ruby was born March 25, 1920 near Turtle Lake, ND, a daughter to Jacob & Anna (Knutson) Forland. She attended rural school and graduated from Turtle Lake High School in 1938. Following high school, Ruby worked at the Tots and Teens Store in Bismarck. On June 30, 1939 she was united in marriage to Edwin Britton. Together they made their home on the Harry Britton homestead for many years. Ruby and Edwin enjoyed traveling together and were very active members of their community. Ruby traveled to Norway on three different occasions to research her ancestry and visit relatives. Edwin passed away on June 14, 1984. The following year, Ruby purchased a home in Turtle Lake where she lived most of her retirement years. She served as co-chair of the McLean County Democratic/NPL Women's Organization for several years. She also served as a 4-H and Farmers Union leader, Sunday School teacher and superintendent, Luther League advisor, Centennial Park committee member, and president of the Sixty Niner's Senior Citizen Club. Ruby enjoyed playing cards and dancing.
She is survived by three sons, James (Linda) Britton of Temple, TX, Richard (Lil) Britton of Turtle Lake, & Roger (Joni) Britton of Underwood; eight grandchildren, James Jr. (Bev) Britton, Lori Britton, Kristen (Stan) Nitz, Lisa (Vince) Villareal, Richard Britton Jr., Jolene Britton, Timothy Britton, & Patrick Britton; one great-grandson, Alex Britton; one sister, Gladys Norland of Bismarck; & many nieces and nephews.
Ruby was preceded in death by her husband (Edwin), three brothers ( Ralph, John, & Lester Forland), & one sister (Stella Birk).
