Roy B. Leidholm, age 78 of Washburn, ND died Saturday, April 5, 2008 at a Bismarck hospital.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at First Lutheran Church in Washburn with the Rev. Joel Sherer, Officiating;

Interment at Birka Lutheran Cemetery – rural Washburn, ND;
Military Rites provided by the American Legion Victor B. Wallin Post #12;

Visitation: 3:30 PM – 7:00 PM Tuesday at Goetz Funeral Home – Washburn, with a 7:30 PM Family Service; Visitation continues Wednesday, one hour prior to time of service at the church.

Roy Bernard Victor Leidholm was born on November 5, 1929, in Underwood, ND to Victor and Ella (Holznagel) Leidholm. He was baptized and confirmed at Birka Lutheran Church where he was a member for many years. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on Feb. 20, 1951 and was honorably discharged in 1952 due to his father's death. He returned to the family farm until 1955. On April 20, 1954, he married Eva Senger in Dodge, ND. They made their home in Washburn. Roy worked for Ted Barnick for one year and then worked for Merle Larson at the Washburn grain elevator, retiring after 31 years of employment.
He was a lifetime member of the Washburn Fire Department, serving as fire chief for several years. He was also a 52-year member of the American Legion Victor B. Wallin Post #12. He could never sit still, so he went to work for Dakota Agronomy delivering fertilizer as well as working for area farmers helping out at harvest. Roy loved to garden in his spare time, sharing many fresh vegetables with all his family, neighbors, and friends. His passion was on the water, either fishing in his boat or on the ice. Roy also was an avid hunter and shared his love of hunting with his sons and grandchildren.
Roy is survived by his wife of 54 years, Eva of Washburn; eight children, Cordell of Dickinson, ND, Dean (Geri) of Washburn, Dwayne (Jan) of Hillsboro, ND, Glynda (Jerry) Janz of Mandan, ND, Tammy (Jeff) Novak of Jamestown, ND, Brian of Reno, NV, Karen (Gerard) Perkerewicz of Grafton, ND, and Sharon (Joel) Rivers of Evans, GA;
21 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mildred (Val) Jahner of Mott, ND; and many nieces and nephews.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents and his two brothers, Chester and Lloyd.
