Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Rose Basaraba, who peacefully departed this life on January 3, 2025 at the age of 88. A beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmothers, sister, friend, and active member of her community, Rose leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and dedication that will be cherished forever.  Funeral services will be held at 12:00pm on Thursday, January 9, 2025 at Parkway Funeral Services, Bismarck with Pastor Randy Emgarten officiating.  Visitation will be held on Thursday from 10am to 12pm.

Rose was born on December 31, 1936 in Mott, North Dakota to Leo and Frances Rausch. She was a proud graduate of Dickinson High School and received her teaching degree from Dickinson State University. Rose went on and garner a degree in Addiction Counseling from Mary College.

Rose began her professional life spending years teaching children at both St. Joseph's and St. Patrick's Elementary Schools. After her teaching career, Rose continued to dedicated her life to others by becoming a compassionate champion and advocate for those struggling with addiction. She worked as an addiction counselor at West Central Human Services, the Department of Human Services and the Heartview Foundation. Rose went on to establish her private practice as Rose Basaraba Counseling. She was the lead in developing the ACAP ( Adult Children of Alcoholic Parents). In 2005, she was honored as the Outstanding Addiction Professional of the Year.

Rose enjoyed gardening, cooking, photography, attending and hosting tea parties, taking cruises throughout the world, along with camping tent-style. Rose and friends went five continuous years tenting no less than once a month, every month. She simply found joy in the simple pleasures of life.

Her family was her greatest pride and joy. She is survived by her children; Karen Thrams, Linda (Kevin) Grina, Doug Basaraba, Bruce (Jackie) Basaraba and Connie Basaraba; grandchildren (and honorary pallbearers), Travis (Katlyn) and Josh (Britany) Thrams, Emily Grina, Shay (Matt) Bennes, John Basaraba, Heather Purvis, and Tim (Sarah) Albrecht; and greatgrandchildren, Rye and Riggen Thrams, Isaiah and Brayden Bennes, and Austin Albrecht; siblings: Frank (Phyllis) Rausch, Carol (Bob) Ohleiser, Bobbi Rausch and Jeri Rausch. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Clarence Rausch.

Though she has departed this earth, Rose's legacy of love and kindness will remain in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be remembered as a beacon of light and a source of unwavering support, whose impact will be felt for generations to come.

May she rest in eternal peace.
