Obituary

Ronald “Ron” Eugene Walcker departed this life on November 21, 2025, at the Garrison Memorial Hospital & Nursing Facility, surrounded by his family, from the scourge of cancer. Funeral Service will be at Trinity Lutheran Church on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at 10:30 AM. Visitation will be one hour prior. Burial will be in Turtle Lake Cemetery.

He was born on April 5, 1950, in his Grandparents’ home in Turtle Lake, ND, to his parents, John and Violet Walcker. Ronald Eugene Walcker graduated from Minot Senior High School in May of 1969. After graduation, he joined the Navy, where he spent the next few years off the coast of Florida on a Tugboat. After his honorable discharge, he moved back to Minot and married Deborah Deann Vennes. They married on March 16, 1973, and raised their three daughters, Deanna, Ronda, and Robin. They divorced in 1996.

Ronald worked for the City of Minot for over 30 years. It was there that his buddies convinced him to join the National Guard in 1976. He spent sixteen and a half years serving in the Guard. He moved to Underwood in 2004 and worked at Underwood High School as a custodian until his retirement in 2012.

He had a love for sports. He had a great glove at shortstop, with a quick release on his strong throws to first. He frustrated many batters with his ability to rob them of hits. When he wasn’t playing, he was watching his beloved New York Yankees, Green Bay Packers, and the Boston Celtics on TV. It was his fire and excitement that would shine through, not to mention his choice of words, which taught his girls to swear like sailors while watching sports.

Whenever you saw Ron, he was always wearing one of his favorite Yankees or Packers baseball hats, with a cigarette in one hand and an Old Milwaukee in the other. One of the only things he liked more than sports was eating pizza, cheeseburgers, borscht, knoephla, strudel, and anything German with “itzel,” “wurst,” or “braten” in its name.

Ron was a city slicker who loved the country, the farm, and the western life. From riding horses, baling hay, racing snowmobiles, reading Louis L’Amour novels, watching any western on TV, and taking care of the many dogs and cats he owned throughout the years, his passion was there.

Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, John & Vi Walcker, his baby brother, Billy, his aunt, Delilah Freborg, and his uncle Milton “Lefty” Walcker.

Those who loved him and were loved by him were his three daughters: Deanna (Paul) Stoll of Hospers, IA; Ronda (Jason) Simmons of Parker, CO; and Robin (Cliff) Jahner of Minot, ND. His seven grandchildren: Jaden, Tyler, Alexa, Devon, Keely, Rylan Simmons, of Parker, CO, and Delainee Stoll, of Hospers, IA. His siblings: Janey (Doug) Pearson of Glenburn, ND; Jimmy Walcker of Phoenix, AZ; Penny Walcker of Underwood, ND; Saundra (John) Nolden of Minot, ND; and Julie Arnold of Underwood, ND. His aunts and uncles are Louise (Bryan) Grondahl of Turtle Lake, ND, Beverly Walcker of Underwood, ND, and Layton Freborg of Bismarck, ND. As well as numerous dear friends and relatives.

May God bless Ronald Eugene Walcker, and may he rest in eternal peace.
