Roland Weisz, age 85 of Underwood, ND passed away Sunday, May 3, 2009 at the Prairieview Nursing Home in Underwood.

Friday, one hour prior to time of service at the church.

Roland E. Weisz was born Sept. 16, 1923 at rural Underwood, ND, the youngest of five children born to Peter & Mary (Gellner) Weisz. Roland graduated from Underwood High School and attended classes by riding horseback or horse-drawn vehicle. He excelled in basketball and football while in high school and continued to follow professional basketball with enthusiasm. Roland eloped to Wibaux, MT with the love of his life, DeLayne Clark, on July 27, 1946. Roland and DeLayne made their home on a farm near Underwood and enjoyed an incredible 62 years of marriage. He was a proud father of two children, Collin & Renae. Roland spent his career farming in the Underwood area and took great pride in his farming operation. He also spent a short time working for an underground coal mine and on the construction of the Garrison Dam. In retirement, Roland and DeLayne enjoyed many winters in Phoenix, AZ, as well as traveling the country in their motorhome. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, horseshoes, and crossword puzzles. Roland was a lifetime member of St. John's Lutheran Church where he was baptized, confirmed, and will be laid to rest. He was a very special husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and will be sorely missed. We as Roland's family, pray that his gifts of humor, wit, and common sense will live on in each of us.

He is survived by his wife, DeLayne Weisz of Underwood; son, Collin (Vonnie) Weisz of Underwood; daughter, Renae (Wesley) Heinle of Dickinson; five grandchildren, Jonathan Weisz, Michael Weisz, Shawn Heinle, Chantel (Austin) Zeller, & Shannon (Richard) Suggs; two great-grandchildren, Kylie & Kira Zeller; one sister, Leontina Bender; and many nieces & nephews.

Roland was preceded in death by his parents, one brother (Otto), and two sisters (Hulda Eman & LaVina Brewster)

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to St. John's Lutheran Church (PO Box 757, Underwood, ND 58576) or the charity of donor's choice.
