Obituary
Rodney Rust, age 70 of Turtle Lake, ND, died May 25, 2013 at Community Memorial Hospital in Turtle Lake from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident southwest of Turtle Lake.
Funeral Services will be held 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, May 28th at the Mercer Community Center in Mercer, ND, with Pastor Lucas Wagner officiating.
Interment will follow in the Mercer Hillside Cemetery with military rites provided by the American Legion Post 133 of Turtle Lake.
Visitation will be held from 5:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Monday at Goetz Funeral Home in Turtle Lake.
Rodney was born January 18, 1943 in Turtle Lake, ND to Jacob & Rosina (Strobel) Rust. He graduated from Mercer High School in 1962. Rodney enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1962 and served on the aircraft carrier USS Constellation. He was honorably discharged in 1966. After returning home, he attended the North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton studying radio and television repair. Rodney married Lois Reiser on June 29, 1969 in Turtle Lake. They moved to Eureka, SD for a short time while Rodney worked as the Administrator of the Eureka Hospital. Rodney and Lois returned to Mercer where he worked for Brown & Root Inc. on the construction of the McClusky Canal and later joined the North Dakota National Guard. Rodney went to work for the Falkirk Mining Company where he was employed until his retirement in 2003. He and Lois built an earth home 3 miles southeast of Turtle Lake in 1985 where he resided until the time of his death. Rodney enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, gardening, working in his greenhouse, tinkering on machines, and ancestral research. He was an avid fan of Turtle Lake-Mercer High School athletics. Rodney was an active member of the Mercer Baptist Church and served as a Deacon. He was also a member of the Turtle Lake American Legion Post 133.
He is survived by his wife Lois; one son, Ryan (Jolene) Rust of Mercer; two daughters, Lani (Shawn) Schafer of Turtle Lake, and Nicole (Cornell) Lofton of Rosemount, MN; five grandchildren, Sabrina, Jacob, & Reagan Rust, Savannah & Cassidy Schafer; one sister and brother-in-law, Vernia & Donald Hausauer of McClusky.
Rodney was preceded in death by his parents.
