Rodney was born November 29, 1966 in Rugby, ND the son of Virgil and Floretta "Sandy" (Volk) Jaeger. The family moved a lot before settling in Washburn in 1976. Rodney was confirmed at St. Edwin's Catholic Church in 1979. He attended school in Washburn and his freshman year of high school was spent at Cardinal Muench Seminary in Fargo. He graduated from Washburn High School in 1985. While in high school Rodney had quite the reputation for being a great football player as well as being a great drum player. He also attended college in Wahpeton where he received an associate's degree in electronics. He worked off shore for the next 16 years as well as driving truck for the family business when he was home on break. In 2003 he retired from the life of traveling for work to drive truck full time. Rodney started R. Joseph Trucking in 2004. He married Kristi (Zeller) on April 8, 2005 in Washburn. In February of 2018 Rodney was diagnosed with cancer and retired. He sold the business and equipment to stay home, which gave him time to focus on his family.
He was very proud of his two children, Maddie and Noah. He enjoyed when they were old enough to help on the truck and go for short trips with him. Rodney was always eager to watch them in their activities. He shared the love of football with both of them. They could often be found tossing the ball around and working on plays. They also enjoyed watching college football on Saturday and the NFL on Sunday. Rodney enjoyed taking the kids on ranger rides in town and sometimes out of town.
Rodney also enjoyed camping, it started out with a tent and later bought their first camper. They created many memories in the years of camping with close friends. Those friends became "family". He also enjoyed Kayaking even though the girls picked on him.
While trucking Rodney enjoyed listening to talk radio and audio books which made him very knowledgeable about many topics. When he was home he found peace in listening with his ear buds to the classics of country music. When he was allowed to be in charge of the TV, he liked watching M*A*S*H, Perry Mason, the History Channel or a cowboy show.
Rodney is survived by his wife, Kristi Jaeger of Washburn; his children, MadeLynn "Maddie" and Noah Jaeger of Washburn; his step-sons, Jacob Oberlander and special friend Sadie Jaskowiak of Bismarck and Hunter Oberlander of Washburn; his sisters, Michelle Hager (Scott Filz) of Washburn, Madonna (Jeff) Wretling of Garrison, ND; his brothers, Randy Jaeger of Washburn, Russell (Helen) Jaeger of Mandan and Ryan (Tracy) Jaeger of Washburn; many nieces, nephews, cousins and his mother and father-in-law, Newell and Linda Zeller of Washburn.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother John Glenn Jaeger.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to the Mayo Clinic or the Bismarck cancer Center.
