Robert (Bob) McAdoo, age 89 of Bismarck, formerly of Hensler and Washburn,
died December 25, 2008 at a Bismarck hospital.
Funeral Services: 10:30 AM Monday, December 29 at First Lutheran Church in Washburn, with Pastor Marvin Winstryg of the United Methodist Church officiating;
Burial: Riverview Cemetery -Washburn
Visitation: 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM Sunday at Goetz Funeral Home, Washburn,
& Monday, one hour prior to time of service at First Lutheran Church.
Bob was born June 19, 1919 in Turtle Lake, ND to James and Minnie
(Bever) McAdoo. He attended Turtle Lake schools and graduated from
Hensler High School in 1936.
He married Beth Lahren November 22, 1940 in Mandan, ND, and just
recently celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary. Before marriage
Bob was a country school teacher. He and Beth moved to their present
day farm north of Hensler in 1943, there, together, they raised their
six children.
He took great pride in his stewardship of the land and received the
Oliver County Soil District Conservation Award in 1956. Living on the
Lewis and Clark Trail, he developed a keen knowledge of the history of
the land and the people that were there before him. Bob was an avid
reader, woodworker, and outdoorsman who enjoyed many countless hours
hunting and fishing with his family and friends. Also together with
friends, he and Beth loved to square dance and play pinochle. He was
very active in the community, serving as a long time 4-H club leader
and volunteer fireman, along with serving on the Hensler school board
and the McLean County Historical Society. Bob was a longtime member
of the Washburn United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Beth of Bismarck; six children, Ronald (Carol) McAdoo
of Overland Park, KS, Bonnie McAdoo of Watsonville, CA, David (Linda)
McAdoo of Williston, ND, Robert (BJ) McAdoo of Bismarck, ND, Susan (Terry)
Rostvedt of Windsor, CO, & Lori (Jim) Leidholm of Denver, CO,
ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; one sister, Ella Mae (Walt)
Earle; his sister-in-law, Jo McAdoo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Don, and two sisters, Florence Ellis and Jean Snyder.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the United Methodist
Church Building Fund, Washburn, ND.
