Robert "Bob" Dale Mart, 81, of Washburn died at his home Saturday, December 24, 2016 of multiple health issues. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will take place Friday, Dec. 30, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Washburn United Methodist Church with Pastor Cory Thrall officiating. Inurnment will be held in the spring at Riverview Cemetery, Washburn.

Robert was born December 6, 1935 to Grant and Mae (Archer) Mart at LaMoure, ND. Robert graduated from LaMoure High School and received his degree in Education from Valley City State.

He married Ethel Siewert on June 28, 1957 at Hebron, ND. Robert taught at Steele and St. John. He then worked for Rushmore Mutual Life Insurance at Rapid City, SD. He returned to teaching at Sykeston, ND, and returned to school and received his Master's Degree from North Dakota State University. He then was Superintendent of Schools at Minnewaukan and Washburn. Retiring from teaching after 11 years, he and several different partners had various businesses including NoDak Farm & Ranch and Mart and Associates. Robert and Ethel also built the Tastee Freez in 1969 operating it for three years and then selling it. In his later years Robert sold World Book and also was a representative for National College of Rapid City. He retired at age 60 because of health problems.

Bob and Ethel had four children: Kim Renae, Jay Robert and Marci Ann who were born while they lived at St. John, and Amy Beth born after they moved to Washburn.

Bob was a member of the Presbyterian Church until they moved to Washburn where they joined the Washburn United Methodist Church. He held several church offices and also was a lay leader and lay speaker. He belonged to the Washburn Masonic Lodge and the Washburn Shriners. He loved to watch all sports on TV and played football in college and loved golfing with his buddies. He also loved his pinochle and cribbage.

Robert is survived by his wife, Ethel of 59 years; his children, Kim (Gordon) Ries, Aurora, CO, Jay (Lynette), Sturgis, SD, Marci (John) Loomis, Bismarck, and Amy Mart, Washburn; eight grandchildren, Aja (Brian) Tibbs, Frederick, CO, Cody (Debbie) Ries, Parker, CO, David (Michelle) Mart, Fargo, Michael (Stephanie) Mart, Bismarck, Holli (Tim) Norling, Harrisburg, SD, Matthew Loomis, Bismarck, Meagan Loomis, Greendale, WI, Anna Loomis, Bismarck; five great-grandchildren, Annabelle Tibbs, Frederick, CO, Sloane and Hayden Ries, Parker, Co, Hailey and Mya Mart, Fargo; his brother, Marvin (Beverly), LaMoure; sisters-in-laws, Karen Mart-Traverna, Fargo, Violet Walth, Hebron, and Sharleen (Rodger) Fraase, Dickinson; brother-in-law, Larry Siewert, Dickinson; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Grant and Mae Mart, his brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Norma, his brother Larry, his sister and brother-in-law, Lila and William Cochrane; his mother and father-in-law, Gotthilf and Lenora Siewert, a sister-in-law, Sharyl Jenkins and one brother-in-law, Milton Walth.

Memorial are preferred to the Washburn United Methodist Church Endowment Fund.
