Robert "Bob" Karna, 86, of Mandan, ND, formerly of Washburn, died August 12, 2021 at Sunset Drive – A Prospera Community Nursing Home. Private family services will be held.
Bob was born April 2, 1935 in Michigan, ND, the son of Oscar R. and Eleanora (Hokenson) Karna. He attended school in Lakota. He was enlisted in the United States Army from October of 1954 to July 1956, while there he was a heavy truck driver.
He married Judy Risch at House of Prayer in Bismarck on September 4, 1971. Following their marriage, they resided in Lincoln where they raised their 2 boys. Bob worked for Andres Machine Shop as a welder. He later worked at Melroe Manufacturing for 36 years.
Following his retirement in 1997, Bob and Judy moved to Washburn. Bob could never fully retire and did some odd jobs during his retirement years. Judy died on September 28, 2010. Bob continued to live in Washburn until 2018 when he entered the Prospera Community in Mandan.
Bob's biggest accomplishment was being sober for 37 years. He enjoyed reading and watching westerns.
Bob is survived by his sons: Allen and Veronica Karna of El Cajon, CA and Dean Karna of Washburn; four grandchildren; and a brother, Steve Karna of Lincoln, ND.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; 2 sons: Tim Gertzson and Matt Gertzson and 12 of his siblings.
