Obituary

Richard "Dick" L. Morgan, age 78 of Falkirk, ND, aka "Old Dad", died January 24, 2012 at his home. In accordance with his wishes, his body will be donated to the University of North Dakota School of Medicine.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, Jan. 28th at the Goetz Funeral Home chapel in Washburn.

Richard was born January 21, 1934 in Bottineau, ND, to Kenneth & Marjorie (Watkins) Morgan. The first two years of his life were spent in Dunseith, ND. His family then moved to a farm in southwestern Minnesota for ten years before returning to Dunseith where he graduated from high school. From 1954 to 1956, he served in the U.S. Army. "Dick" attended the University of North Dakota during his undergraduate years and received may academic honors, including memberships in Phi Eta Sigma, Phi Theta Kappa, & Phi Beta Kappa. As a Woodrow Wilson Fellow, he attended the University of Illinois where he earned a Masters Degree in 1960. For the following 35 years, "Dick" was employed as an Instructor of History at the New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, NM, Joliet Junior College in Joliet, IL, and the Arapahoe Community College in Littleton, CO. "Dick" also completed a year's study following his Masters Degree at the University of New Mexico and at the New Mexico Highlands University. His accomplishments include writing a book on the history of Champaign County in Illinois and appearing in a movie.

In 1978, he married Shana Davis. "Dick" retired in 1993 and returned to North Dakota to make his residence in Falkirk. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, camping, fishing, and always, Theater. He was a member of the American Legion Victor B. Wallin Post 12 of Washburn.

He is survived by his wife, Shana Morgan of Falkirk; five children and grandchildren, Clark (Leslie) Morgan and their children, Lily & Maddie ,of Littleton, CO, Robin Morgan of Champlin, MN, Glynis (Neil) Ross and their children Morwynna, Tristan, & Donald, of Scotland, Rhondda Morgan of Washburn, & Meridyth Morgan of Iowa City, IA; and one brother, Gary (Mary Lou) Morgan of Minot.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother (John).
