IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard "Dick"
Kronebusch
March 9, 1944 – December 27, 2022
Richard D. Kronebusch, 78, passed away on December 27, 2022 following a long, hard fought battle with cancer.
Richard, or 'Dick' as family and friends called him, was born March 9, 1944 to Donald and Katherine Kronebusch in Valley City. He spent his early years in Underwood and most summers in Sanborn with his grandparents and a large extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins. Dick later joined the military for a brief period of service.
Dick married Marlys Flemmer on June 27, 1964 in Bismarck. The couple later moved to Washburn where they made their home and began raising their family.
Once settled in Washburn, Dick began his career as a professional flooring installer, working for Schultz and Company and Prairie House Furniture for many years. Always known as a hard and tireless worker, Dick simultaneously maintained multiple jobs throughout this timeframe. He became a weekend night deputy dispatcher at the McClean County Sheriff's Department, drove truck for local companies and was the custodian at the McClean County Courthouse before accepting the full-time position as night deputy dispatcher. Throughout his career, Dick continued to accept flooring jobs across the county and beyond, and will always be remembered for taking pride in a job done right, and on time. Following his retirement, Dick continued to work for McLean County as a part-time custodian.
In his downtime, Dick liked catching up on tv shows and especially loved Girl's College and Women's Pro Basketball. He enjoyed taking drives around the area, and was a great storyteller. Dick enjoyed reminiscing with family and friends, and had a knack for remembering every location, date and detail. No story was complete until every detail was accounted for.
Dick is survived by his daughter, Kim Combs and her husband Erick of Yelm, WA, their sons, Alex and Andrew, and his son, Ron Kronebusch and his partner Tami Taylor of Boise, ID. He is also survived by his sister Janet Schneider, of Bismarck.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Marlys and a sister, Carol.
The family will hold a private gathering to honor Dick in spring/summer 2023.
