Babe Binsfeld was born October 18, 1922 to Mathias & Katherine Binsfeld on the family farm west of Wilton, ND. His family moved to the Danielson farm near the Missouri river on Hwy. 1804 where Babe attended rural school. He helped out on the family farm and worked for area farmers. Babe and his parents moved into Washburn where they bought a home in 1952. He married Jean Peterson on June 30, 1954 in Wilton. They purchased a home in Washburn where Babe worked for Washburn Implement, Nordquist Brothers dealership, and Washburn Standard. In 1977, he became employed by the McLean County Sheriff's Department as a security guard during the construction phase of the Coal Creek Generating Plant. Babe worked as a jailer from 1980 to 1987. Babe was a part-time employee for the City of Washburn, worked as a custom combiner, and drove school bus. With all of his jobs, he still found time to be an active member of the Washburn Ambulance Service for many years. Babe also served on the Washburn Volunteer Fire Department for 34 years. He enjoyed dancing and was the square dance caller for the "River Rats Dance Band" for many years. Babe also enjoyed playing cards and bowling. He was an active member of the Wilton and Washburn Senior Citizens until his failing health required him to move to the Prairieview Nursing Home in January 2005.
