Raymond W. Brostrom, 95, of Bismarck, ND formerly of Wilton died September 16, 2014 in a Bismarck hospital. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday September 20, 2014 at Mission Evangelical Free Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Russell Whitaker. Interment will in the Riverview Cemetery, Wilton with military rites by the Wilton American Legion and ND Military Honors. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.
Raymond Wallace Brostrom was born November 3, 1918 the son of Joseph R. and Anna (Engstrom, Backman) Brostrom in Painted Woods Township, ND. He worked on the family farm in his earlier years and for other family relatives who farmed. Raymond served in the US Army during World War II in Holland, France and Germany in the Iron Men of Metz division. He was honorably discharged and return to North Dakota in 1945. Raymond married Carol Sawyer on June 13, 1948 in Lignite, ND. Following their marriage they lived in Wilton, ND. Raymond had his own mechanical repair shop until joining the Farmer's Union Oil Company in 1958. He was a mechanic and managed the petroleum delivery for the Farmer's Union Company until his retirement.
Raymond was involved with various projects in Wilton including the park and recreation board and the Soo Depot restoration project, of which he served as Chairman. Carol and Raymond were also members of the Mission Evangelical Free Church of Wilton.
Raymond is survived by his sons; William (Elizabeth) of Alma, MI and David (Terry) of Scottsbluff, NE; 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; sister-in-laws, Betty Brostrom and Lorraine Brostrom and many nieces and nephews.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; wife carol in 2004; son Bruce; brothers, Walter, Russell, Morris; sisters, Lorene and Delores.
