Reuben Ray Herr, age 69 of Turtle Lake, ND passed away June 24, 2014, with his wife, Dianne and cousin, Lisa at his side. Ray had conquered the challenge of colon cancer and was cancer free for seven years. His challenge of lymphosarcoma could not be cured and he died peacefully at the Community Memorial Hospital in Turtle Lake. Celebration of his life will be held 10:30 A.M. Saturday, June 28th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Turtle Lake. Visitation will be shared from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday and one hour prior to the service on Saturday all at the church. Final resting place will be at the Turtle Lake Cemetery. Acting pallbearers will be Terry Berg, Raymond Edinger, Lonnie Lelm, Ray Murray, Denny Portra and Chris Trzpuc.
Ray was born May 5, 1945 at St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck, ND the son of Reuben and Ruby (Gett) Herr. He attended schools in Bismarck, graduating from Bismarck High School in 1963. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from NDSU-Fargo in 1967.On June 2, 1967 Ray and Dianne (Rath) were joined in marriage at Trinity Lutheran Church. They recently celebrated 47 years together. Following college graduation, Ray accepted a position with Boeing Aircraft Company in Seattle, WA followed by employment with Amoco Oil Refinery in Mandan. In 1972 Ray and Dianne established Ray Herr Construction, specializing in excavating and heavy equipment projects. In 1976 they built a shop in Turtle Lake. The welding and machine shop was well known throughout the area. Ray took pride in his work and always shared his knowledge and gave his customers quality workmanship.
Ray was instrumental in developing the Turtle Lake Airport. He was an instrument rated pilot, and shared his enthusiasm for flying by hosting 20 years of fly-in Breakfasts benefiting Camp of the Cross. He was also a member of the ND Military Vehicle Collectors Association and proudly joined the local American Legion for parades with his 1969 Army Wrecker and 1980 Army Field shop.
He is survived by his wife, Dianne and brother Alan of San Diego, CA, aunt, Edna Rauser and mother-in-law, Ione Rath.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Reuben (1970) and Ruby (Gett) Herr (2013) and father-in-law, Herbert Rath (1994)
Memorials in lieu of flowers will be given to Camp of the Cross or as designated by the donor.
