Phyllis Sukumlyn, 97, Turtle Lake, ND died September 24, 2020 in the CHI Community Memorial Hospital, Turtle Lake.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at the Turtle Lake Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Vetter officiating.  Interment will be held in the Kief Cemetery, Kief, ND.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.

Phyllis was born May 27, 1923 in Turtle Lake, ND the daughter of Andrew and Pauline (Strobel) Wolitarsky.  She grew up on the family farm near Turtle Lake and attended school in Turtle Lake.  She graduated from Turtle Lake High School in 1942.  Phyllis attended college in San Francisco, CA and at Minot Teacher's College where she received her teaching degree.  She later received her Bachelor of Science in teaching from Minot State College.  Phyllis married Edward Sukumlyn on June 15, 1952 in Turtle Lake. She taught school near Washburn and in Kief, Deering, Cathay, Zap, Douglas, Knox, Karlsruhe, Drake, Balfour and Aneta.  Edward and Phyllis lived on their farm near Kief until retiring and moving into Turtle Lake.

She was a very active member of Turtle Lake Baptist Church where she served in many capacities.  She also attended Liberty Baptist Church in Kief.

Phyllis is survived by her son, Timothy "Tim" Sukumlyn of Kief; her sisters, Dorothy Zimbelman of Sioux Falls, SD, Winifred Stober of Bismarck, ND and Jean Sigmund of Billings, MT and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Edward in 2002, a sister, Leona Schiller and two brothers, Herbert Dale and Vernon "Bud" Wolitarsky.

The family prefers memorials to the Turtle Lake Baptist Church.
