IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Peggy Lou
Thoreson
February 16, 1961 – April 4, 2024
Peggy Lou Thoreson, 63, of Turtle Lake, ND and Maricopa, AZ, passed away peacefully at home on April 4, 2024. Funeral services will be held at 10:30am on Friday, April 12, 2024 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Rural Turtle Lake, ND with Pastor Paul Schauer officiating. Burial will be held in the Crooked Lake Cemetery.
Peggy was born on February 16, 1961, to Oscar and Naomi Bovkoon. She spent most of her childhood on the family farm near Benedict, ND with her five siblings. Growing up, you could always find her outside building forts, playing with barn cats, walking the pastures, or hanging out in the barn loft—little sister Audrey was never far behind. She attended school in Turtle Lake, ND, where she was active in FHA, annual and paper staff, and was FFA Sweetheart, graduating with honors in 1979.
In 1981, she welcomed her daughter, Nicole, and embraced her true calling as a devoted mother.
Peggy met the love of her life, Norman, in Turtle Lake, and they were married on January 25, 1985. They settled down on the Thoreson Family Farm where they welcomed sons Andy and Tony. Peggy was a loving mother and homemaker, spending her days cooking, gardening, scrapbooking, quilting, and raising her three children. She was a long-standing member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school for several years. While still on the farm, Peggy and Norman welcomed home their fur baby, Bailey. He quickly became one of the great loves of her life and definitely wasn't spoiled at all. Her love for him was infinite and he held a very special place in her heart.
Peggy and Norman relocated to Arizona in 2015 and loved exploring different parts of the United States. When they weren't traveling or planning their next adventure, Peggy enjoyed dinners out and playing golf with friends, attending shows at the ASU Gammage, and working on her next quilting masterpiece. Above all, the greatest joys of her life were her grandchildren.
She epitomized pure, unwavering love and brought a sense of calm to all who knew her. Her unforgettable legacy will live on through her children and grandchildren.
Peggy is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 39 years, Norman; children, Nikki (Jeremy) Lang, of Underwood, ND; Andy (Sarah) Thoreson, of St. Louis Park, MN; Tony Thoreson, of Washburn, ND; grandchildren, Ashton, Kaden, Hayden, Jace, Trysten, Caitlyn, and Loryn; mother, Naomi Bovkoon; siblings, Geraldine (Gary) Rickard, Kathy (Kenny) Madden, Gary (Kristi) Bovkoon, David (Trish) Bovkoon, Audrey (Lynn) Wentz; siblings-in-law, Faith (Brad) Hahn, Jay Brown, Jeanie Shirley, Karen Hutter, Darrow Schmidt, Gaylin (Nadean) Schmidt; and many nieces and nephews.
Peggy was preceded in death by her father, Oscar Bovkoon; mother and father-in-law, Dorothy and Orville Thoreson; and siblings-in-law, Hope Brown and Russell Schmidt.
