Obituary

Paul Alvin Hirschkorn, 57, of Turtle Lake North Dakota, passed from this life into eternal life on October 9 th , 2020.  Graveside services will be held at 2:00pm Thursday, October 15, 2020 at the Turtle Lake Cemetery with Pastor Curt Hanson officiating. Military rites will be provided by the Turtle Lake American Legion Post 133.

Paul was born on June 30 th , 1963 in Turtle Lake, the son of Alvin and Erika (Geigle) Hirschkorn. Paul graduated from Turtle Lake-Mercer High School in 1981. Following his graduation Paul enlisted in the United States Army where he was stationed at Fort McClellan, Alabama; Checkpoint Charlie, Berlin, Germany; and Fort Monroe, Norfolk, Virginia. He was a proud member of the Army Military Police. In the US Army, Paul was a member of the 287 th MP Company "family." He recently made contact with fellow service members and was planning a reunion prior to this past summer. Continuing his military service, Paul was in the Army Reserve for 6 years, and member of the Turtle Lake American Legion Post 133. Additionally, Paul was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Paul was a kind and gentle man, who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid reader and enjoyed reading anything and everything, from western novels to the Bible. Paul was generous to a fault. Any child would be lucky to have Paul as their Santa Claus. He loved buying gifts and watching people's faces as they opened his gifts. He knew the true meaning of giving versus receiving. Old cars, guns, hunting, western novels, U.S. and world history, and truck driving were among his passions. He loved driving truck.

Paul loved to go hunting, not for the hunt but to relive past stories and to spend time telling them over and over, laughing along the way. When Paul retold stories, they were just as funny the last time as the first time. He took time to talk to everyone and took an interest in their lives and stories as well. If you wanted an engaging conversation, Paul was your guy. Working construction, Paul ate far too many restaurant meals and was so grateful when he had the opportunity to have a home-cooked meal:  German meals prepared by his mom, and of course deep-fried turkey for Thanksgiving.

Paul was an amazing son, brother, and uncle. Our good Lord was exceptionally creative when he brought Paul to this world. We miss him dearly and our lives will not be the same without him. Thank you for keeping our family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Paul is survived by his mom Erika Hirschkorn, two sisters and two brothers: Lori Ann (Dale) Sorenson of Underwood, ND; David (Toni) Hirschkorn of Fargo, ND; Christi (Darin) Tweeten of Bismarck, ND; and John Hirschkorn of Turtle Lake, ND; nieces: Jacklyn (Jarett) Kessler of Bismarck, ND; Shayla Sorenson, Shelly Sorenson and Renae Sorenson of Underwood, ND; nephews: Jordan Tweeten of Bismarck, ND; Steven Sorenson of Underwood, ND; and Marcus Hirschkorn of Fargo, ND; great nieces: Khloe, Ivy and Eva Kessler of Bismarck, ND; great nephew: Vin Kessler of Bismarck, ND; aunts and uncles: Emil and Nancy Geigle of Shady Cove, Oregon; Otto Geigle of Harvey, ND; Elaine Geigle of Aurora, Colorado; Janice Geigle of Turtle Lake, ND; Janice Geigle of Minneapolis, MN; MaryAnn and Dan Ripplinger of Highland Ranch, Colorado; Adeline Heutmaker of Florida; Janice DeKrey of Bismarck, ND; and also many cousins.
