Myron Makeeff, age 73 of Mercer, ND died Friday, April 6th from injuries sustained in an auto accident near Underwood.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 10th at the Mercer Community Center. Burial will follow at the Mercer Hillside Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM Monday at the Mercer Baptist Church and will continue Tuesday, one hour prior to time of service at the Mercer Community Center.
Myron was born Sept. 1, 1938 in Turtle Lake, ND to Emanuel & Rosella (Fried) Makeeff. He attended Brush Lake Country School and later graduated from Mercer High School in 1957. After graduation, he attended North Dakota State University to study agriculture for a short time. He returned to the farm located one mile north of Mercer to assist his father in the farming operation. After several years, Myron joined his brother Russell in farming and ranching and later his two sons and son-in-law on the family's homestead. Myron was recognized as the Jaycee's Outstanding Young Farmer of the Year in 1972.
He was united in marriage to Geraldine Joann Fylling on June 12, 1966 at the St. Olaf Lutheran Church, north of Turtle Lake. Myron was a man of strong Christian faith and often expressed his strong conviction. Serving the Lord led him to action in a number of capacities including serving as president of the Turtle Lake-Mercer school board, the Community Memorial Hospital board, and the Mercer Baptist Church council. Myron also served ten years as a McLean County special deputy. He drove school bus for the Turtle Lake-Mercer school district where he and his brother, Russell, purchased and operated the first bus for the merged school district.
Myron played basketball in high school and the game evolved to become his lifelong passion. His love of the sport continued throughout his life as he played amateur basketball for many years and later became an enthusiastic spectator. He enjoyed watching his children's involvement in the sport in addition to watching many teams around the area. Myron looked forward to family reunions and get-togethers. He also enjoyed coffee time with his many friends and was known for sharing his views as a conservative Republican.
He is survived by his loving wife, Geraldine of Mercer; 3 children and grandchildren, Kemp (Becky) and their children Cole & Ty, of Mercer, Lance (Amy) and baby Makeeff, of Minot, Candace (William) Ressler and their children Jessica, Trey, & Braden, of Mandan; one great-granddaughter, Lillian; four siblings, Russell of Mercer, Deloris Howe of Minot, Irene Severson of Minot, & Doris Lindteigen of Turtle Lake; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Myron was preceded in death by his parents, & three brothers (Arnie, Perry, & Raymond).
