Obituary

Morris E. Nelson, 92, Washburn, ND passed away on May 11, 2022 at Sanford Health, Bismarck.  Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, May 23, 2022 at the Washburn United Methodist Church with Pastor Annie Carlson and Pastor Cory Thrall officiating.  Interment will be held in the Riverview Cemetery, Washburn.  There will be a Celebration of Life service held at 4:00 PM on Sunday, May 22, 2022 at the Washburn United Methodist Church.

Morris Eugene Nelson was born July 18, 1929, at the Wilson Home Hospital, to Ralph and Gladys (Carlson) Nelson.  He was a graduate of the Washburn High School and NDSU. He married Thordyce (Van Zee) on May 23, 1954 at Hunter ND.  They made their home in Washburn where they raised their 5 children.  Morris was assistant County Agent in McLean County and the County Agent in Dickey County.  He purchased Falkirk Lumber yard in 1957 and Nelson Marine a couple years later.  He purchased the Washburn Lumber yard in 1960 and the Minot North Hill Marine in 1967. Morris also drove school bus for many years and then began MT Fun Tours.

He was a current member of the United Methodist Church and Washburn Lions club with over 60 years of service in the Washburn Lions Club.  He organized the Washburn Cowboys 4-H club and was a leader for over 20 years.  He was a member of the McLean County Fair Board and the ND State Fair Board.  He traveled many places with the concession stands selling mini donuts, cotton candy, and burgers.

He loved traveling, family gatherings, visiting with people and teasing the little ones, and was a mentor to many.

Morris is survived by his children, Kimberly (Bob) Erlandson, Valorie (Dwight) Hetletved), Donna Nelson, Lonna Nelson and Randall (Rhonda) Nelson; his 6 grandchildren; his 9 great grandchildren; many step grandchildren and special friend, Barbara Goehring.

Morris was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, siblings and 2 grandchildren.

The family requests memorials go to the Washburn United Methodist Church, Washburn Lions Club, ND 4-H Foundation or the Washburn Ambulance Service.
