Obituary

Misty Sims, 50, of Coleharbor, ND died at her residence on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. Funeral Service will held at First Lutheran Church, Washburn on Friday, March 27, 2026, at 1:00PM. Visitation will be one hour prior at the church.

Misty Sims, born on June 6, 1975, to Melvin and Peggy (Cook) Schmitz). She was raised in Washburn until her family moved and was educated in Riverdale Public School until its closing in 1992, and then proudly graduating from Underwood High School in 1995.

After high school, she worked for her dad at his motorcycle shop always tinkering with things and even building a motorcycle. She later found her calling in caring for others, beginning as a nanny, a role that perfectly suited her nurturing nature. This is where she met the love of her life, Jamie Sims. The couple married in June of 2002 and had two children.

As a dedicated stay-at-home mother, she devoted herself wholeheartedly to raising her boys, ensuring that they always felt her love and encouragement. She was the unmistakable force behind their participation in sports, not only attending every game but energetically supporting the booster clubs and manning concession stands with a smile. Her sons were not just her family; they were her number one priority and the living legacy she so lovingly raised. Misty was a very proud grandma to her granddaughter Wynona.

She later brought her dependable spirit to Dollar General and most recently to Sodas & Things in Underwood, where she was known not just as an employee but as a cherished presence. Beyond the workplace, Misty volunteered at local food pantries and soup kitchens. These hours spent in humble service reflected her deep empathy and her unwavering commitment to her community.

Misty is survived by her loving husband of 23 years, Jamie, two sons, Nathan (Voshaun) and Lucas, granddaughter, Wynona, sister Michelle (Steve) Schmitz Skelton, brothers, Eric (Sherry) Schmitz and Josh (Tiffany) Schmitz, parents-in-law, Dan and Renee Sims, several nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
