Mildred Geneva Liudahl was born in Fargo, ND on November 28, 1925 the daughter of Oscar and Julia (Olson) Liudahl. She grew up on the family farm in Davenport, ND with her siblings Alice, Norman and Hazel. Upon completion of high school, Millie attended Moorhead State Teachers College in Moorhead, MN. Her first teaching position was in Amenia, ND. Several years later she accepted an elementary teaching position in Washburn, ND. Little did she know that the train trip from eastern North Dakota would lead to lifelong residency in Washburn. Millie married Gerald "Stork" Nordquist on June 19, 1949 and recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. They built their home of 62 years on their favorite hilltop spot overlooking the Missouri River. It is in this home that their four children David, Laurie, Richard, and JoDee where raised.
Millie enjoyed baking, cooking, canning and sewing for her family and friends. Many hours were spent in her flower gardens and hosting social events in the beautiful back yard. Millie taught in Washburn for two years prior to getting married. The school board did not allow for married teachers so Millie resigned as a teacher and worked as a secretary for the school. She continued various employment opportunities until the adoption of their first son David Paul. Millie returned to teaching when their youngest, JoDee, started school and continued for 20 years until her retirement in 1990.
During retirement Millie and Stork continued serving the Washburn community and enjoyed their grandchildren's activities of fishing, baseball, swimming, and numerous school events. Millie involved herself with many civic activities and organizations such as her 70 year membership with the Washburn's American Legion Auxiliary, the Washburn's Republican Women's Club, and the many activities of the First Lutheran Church and the Washburn United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband Gerald "Stork" Nordquist, two daughters Laurie (Myron) Cullen, JoDee (John) Sayler, seven grandchildren Joshua (Kayla) Ternes, Jonathan (Kelsey) Ternes, Jordan (Sarah) Ternes, Nicolas (Brittany) Cullen, Lauren Cullen, Quinn Cullen, Mahana Nordquist, and ten great grandchildren Essence, Easton, Weston, Kaiden, Corbin, Lydia, Jed, Owen, Emma and Caleb. Sisters-In-Law Beverly (Nordquist) Holtan of Bismarck, ND, Agnes Liudahl, West Fargo, ND and numerous nieces and nephews.
Millie was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, brother, and two sons.
Millie's life is best describe as one of unwavering devotion to her husband, family, friends, and community. Her loving ways will always be remembered. A very special thank you to the staff and nurses of Miller Point, your loving care was greatly appreciated.
