Mikkel B.
Libby
February 18, 1944 – May 29, 2024
Mikkel Libby, 80, of Bismarck, ND passed away May 29, 2024 at Hay Creek Lodge Assisted Living in Bismarck.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday, June 5th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wilton, ND with Father John Paul Gardner as celebrant. Burial will be held at a later date in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5PM to 7PM Tuesday at the church followed by a time of sharing at 7PM.
Mikkel was born February 18, 1944 in Bismarck, ND to Frank & Esther (Wanner) Murrey. She attended the Ecklund Township country school and Wilton High School, graduating with the Class of 1962. She then attended the University of North Dakota where she met and eventually married Stuart Libby. From this union, four children were born, Steven, Cristine, Beverly, and Stephanie. Most of their years were spent residing in Center, ND where Mikkel worked as the St. Martin's Catholic Church secretary and a CCD teacher. In 1991, Mikkel moved to Bismarck where she worked for Daytons/Marshall Fields until the closing of the store in Kirkwood Mall.
Mikkel was a feisty lady with a quirky sense of humor. She was well versed in mechanics, woodworking and painting/artwork and never stopped learning. She enjoyed raising flowers, was amazing at playing piano (often playing by "ear"), and loved spending precious time with family and friends. Mikkel kept tabs on everyone, especially her grandchildren, siblings, nieces, & nephews. Sometimes she had words of wisdom to share and other times simply offered a listening ear. She spent many years mentoring young people in the AA program and the YCC, as these were some of her most fulfilling missions in life. Mikkel was a strong advocate and spokesperson for the residents in her assisted living facility, always working to improve the quality of life for everyone.
She is survived by her daughters, Cristine Saccoman of Ramsey, MN, Beverly Cody of Bismarck, & Stephanie (Rich) Kopp of Fargo; brothers, Stan and Tom (Carrie) Murrey; sisters, Debbie Fritel and Colleen (Don) Flinn; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, & nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son (Steven), parents, brother (Mark), in-laws (Fred & Frances Libby, Sandy & Dorothy Murrey, & Ernie Fritel).
